Key Largo and The Upper Keys
The first region you will encounter is Key Largo, which offers some of the finest diving and snorkeling in the Florida Keys.
The diving possibilities attracts divers from all over the world, and they come primarily to The John Pennekamp Coral Reef Park, which was the first underwater park in The United States. It celebrated its 50 years anniversary in 2010.
It is the longest and largest island in The Florida Keys, and it has The Florida Bay to its north and to the south it has The Florida Straits and The Atlantic Ocean.
A large portion of the upper part of it is unsettled because it is protected land. Here you can find The Crocodile Lake National Wildlife Refuge, a 6,800-acre hardwood hammock that is the primary breeding ground for the endangered American crocodile. This area is closed to the public.
